Set in two ½ acre gardens, the lazy river close for swimming, boating, fishing yet only 10 mins from the beautiful Roman town of Saintes, 40 mins from the stunning sandy pine-fringed Atlantic beaches, 1 hr 15 mins from Futurascope.
Our pretty cottages with cozy woodburner and/or central heating make a perfect year-round base for house-hunting, bird and wildlife watching, exploring chateaux and vineyards, churches and villages and the abundance of excellent restaurants where you may sample the superb wines, cognacs and sea foods for which this region is renowned
The cottages are set in very rural surroundings with the river Charente 300m down a small track.There is a little stony beach into the river from which you can swim or launch the canoe if you wish. People sometimes fish from the bank there as well. Several excellent golf courses are within easy reach, the nearest being only 15 mins away just outside Saintes. There are several towns and villages around, the nearest, Saintes, 10 mins. drive away, where you can find indoor and outdoor pools and plenty of other things to do. The countryside is ideal for cycling as there is little traffic and the terrain is pretty flat. There is an abundance of local chateaux and vineyards where they are happy for you to taste their wines. Restaurants and bars abound.
The beautiful sandy beaches are all within a 30/40 min drive with safe bathing for children and other amenities as needed.
It is an ideal spot to sit peacefully watching the wildlife, particularly the birds which can be seen on the marsh during migration, but not to be missed are the storks which have nested there for 7 years now. There is much fun to be had watching the nestling storks go about their business between march and july/august when they set off for their journey south.
